ELN for ESRM

2021 Fall - UH - Wed - Elijah P Walker

Description

This soil sample was obtained in a bayou near Macgregor Park where constant sewage flows through the area and contaminates the local soil.  Along with construction, frequent rain and flooding within the area also help contribute to the variety of microorganisms that may be found in the bayou. Over the 5 weeks of conducting this experiment, the test tubes have slowly changed from a deep orange-yellow to a light pale yellow, which suggests that the bacteria levels in the test tubes have steadily decreased and no bacterial growth has occurred in any of the test tubes with the CSM Px sample being the exception from weeks 3-5. For the Px plate there were no halos around colonies, thus no signs of OP hydrolysis were seen. The Bacteria was able to tolerate OP pesticide but was not able degrade it.
