ELN for ESRM

2022 Spring - Tarleton - Wed - Caroly Leija - Roadside

Description

Of the two tubes (CSM_Px and SSM_Px) that were attempted to be revitalized in LB broth, only the one with CSM_Px showed growth. This was possibly due to Paraoxon ethyl degradation over time or spontaneous hydrolysis. Once plated, the culture that grew in LB broth had a CFU of 6000000 colonies that could hydrolyze the pesticide. Overall, a majority of the microbes collected by the class only digested the Paraoxon ethyl. This could have been because of the type of soil collected or any other unaccounted external factor that could have affected the results. The incubation period could have also affected microbial metabolization, especially if microbes favor specific incubation parameters.
